What are the common solutions for cable faults?

In daily use and engineering applications, power cables and electronic wires are prone to various faults due to long-term operation, aging, external extrusion, high temperature and humid environment. Common cable faults include open circuit, short circuit, low resistance leakage and high resistance damage. Different fault types correspond to targeted detection and maintenance schemes.

For open circuit faults caused by wire core breakage, it is necessary to first cut off the power supply for safety inspection, use a multimeter to test the on-off of each section of the wire, locate the breakpoint, and then perform crimping welding or replacement wiring. For short-circuit faults between wires caused by insulation layer damage and aging, the damaged insulation part shall be stripped, wrapped with high-temperature insulating tape or replaced with new wire harness accessories.

Low-resistance faults are mostly caused by damp insulation and local damage, which can be detected by bridge detection method; high-resistance faults are often breakdown damage under high voltage, which needs to be tested by high-voltage flashover method. Regular inspection, regular replacement of aging wires, and avoiding overloading and high-temperature baking can effectively reduce cable failure probability.
